Chicago is a musical masterpiece set against the jazz tunes of the roaring twenties – numbers like “All that Jazz” and “Razzle Dazzle” need little introduction.
It is also a biting satire on celebrity culture and the power, and manipulation, of the press. Based around a real situation in 1920s Chicago when slick lawyers realised that careful press coverage could help their female clients literally to get away with murder, the show tells the story of Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, two self-confessed murderers who will stop at nothing to use their infamy as a spring-board to show-biz stardom.
